Our Story - Our Legacy
A legacy written
in silver & gold
From a door-to-door goldsmith in 1880s Vellore to crafting India's Sengol in 1947 — and now, your everyday jewellery.
"The mantra to sell jewellery is that you give it with a smile and the customer also takes it with a smile. Whatever you give them is going to be used in their most special occasion."— KRITISH VUMMIDI · FIFTH GENERATION · CO-FOUNDER, KRESHYA
Born in Pallikondan,
Vellore — the 1880s
Our journey began with ancestors who crafted and sold jewellery door-to-door as traditional goldsmiths. Born in Pallikondan, Vellore, the Vummidi family carried not just gold but a philosophy — that jewellery is the most personal gift a human being can give or receive.

Artistry beyond tools — designing on slate and chalk
Slate, chalk, and
boundless craft
Using slate and chalk instead of conventional tools, the Vummidi craftsmen created both traditional and contemporary pieces tailored to individual preferences. Every piece was conceived by hand before it was formed in metal — a practice of intention that still guides Kreshya today.
Where ancient intricacy
meets modern aesthetics
Over time, the Vummidi family became known for blending ancient intricacy with modern aesthetics — setting design trends across generations. The family name became synonymous with trust, quality, and a sensibility that was both rooted and forward-looking.
A legacy passed down
The hands that crafted
India's Sengol.
In 1947, our forefathers — Vummidi Anjaneyellu Chetty and Ethiraj Vummidi — were entrusted with an honour that would connect the Vummidi name to Indian history forever.
They handcrafted the golden Sengol — the ceremonial sceptre that was presented to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru by Lord Mountbatten as a sacred mark of India's sovereignty and independence.
The Sengol represents the transfer of power rooted in Tamil tradition — a symbol of righteous rule. That it was made by Vummidi hands is a testament not just to their craft, but to the trust an entire nation placed in them.
Reinstated in India's
new Parliament — 2023
In 2023, the Sengol was rediscovered and honoured with a permanent place in India's new Parliament House by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Ethiraj Vummidi was celebrated during the ceremony.
What began as a goldsmith's commission in 1947 had become a symbol of India's constitutional identity — and the Vummidi name was once again at the heart of national history.
Kritish Vummidi — fifth generation — carries this legacy forward. Not in gold alone, but in the sustainable silver of Kreshya: jewellery for a new India, rooted in everything that came before.

Meet Kritish & Aishwarya
"We blend the modern with the traditional — not just in jewellery, but in how we live."
Kritish Vummidi is the fifth generation of the Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers family — one of Chennai's most iconic jewellery dynasties. He studied in the UK before returning to Chennai, bringing a global perspective back to a deeply rooted South Indian legacy.
Together with his wife Aishwarya, they founded Kreshya to create something new within something ancient: sustainable demi-fine silver jewellery that a modern Indian woman can wear every day — from office to occasion, from Chennai to the world.
Described by New Indian Express as one of Chennai's young power couples, Kritish and Aishwarya embody the spirit of Kreshya: rooted in heritage, open to the world, committed to craft.
